Do you have blurry vision? Are you noticing glare with oncoming headlights at night? Do you have trouble reading small print even with the best glasses? In many cases this may represent cataracts. Cataracts occur when the natural lens within the eye becomes cloudy. This can occur gradually over time but sometimes develops rapidly.
Our Cataract Surgery Services.
Our Harvard trained ophthalmologist, Dr. Mary Coday, specializes in cataract surgery, including some of the most cutting edge advanced intraocular lens technology. When cataracts become visually significant, they can be alleviated by cataract surgery. This is a very common outpatient procedure where the cloudy lens is removed through a very small incision (less than 3 mm), and is replaced with a lens implant. When we remove a cataract, we can put lenses of virtually any power in its place. This means in many cases, we can simultaneously also refine your visual correction simply by selecting a lens implant that is specifically tailored to your eye. If your eye is a suitable candidate, you may consider numerous advanced technologies including those that reduce astigmatism or even reduce dependence on glasses!
Your Priorities.
Working with our surgical team, you can plan for and target to your specific visual priorities. Do you want to see better when playing golf? Would you like to be able to read up close without glasses? We can work with you to determine what lens implant options would best meet your visual needs and ocular condition.
We’re Focused on You.
At Overlake EyeCare, we focus on personalized care. As a practice, relationship building is what we have been doing in the Bellevue and eastside community for over 40 years! We realize your eye and your personal needs are unique, and we seek to thoroughly understand your ocular condition and goals to together select the optimal surgical plan — customized to YOU.
When you book a surgical consultation, this will consist of a discussion of your visual needs to determine which intraocular technology would best suit you. A thorough assessment of the medical condition of your eye will be performed to customize the best intraocular lens technology for your situation.
Your ocular health, including any disease states such as dry eye, glaucoma, macular degeneration, retinal disease, and irregular corneal shape, will be factored into consideration for lens implant recommendations.
If you have had LASIK or previous refractive surgery, we are especially pleased to be able to offer the customizable Light Adjustable Lens implant at the time of cataract surgery. This lens can be “tweaked” postoperatively for highest precision in postoperative vision. The ability to adjust your postoperative result through our Light Delivery Device and tailor it to your specific needs helps greatly with your visual outcome because eyes that have undergone previous surgery do not follow standard calculated algorithms when determining lens implant options. Adjustable lens implant options embrace a cutting edge technology that has been on the market for the last 7 years.
We also offer outstanding fixed lens technologies that help with simultaneous distance, intermediate, and near vision, including those with recent advancements that minimize glare (Panoptix Pro) and those that provide extended depth of focus (Vivity).
Your Partnership.
Your visual outcome is important to us, so we will ask you to do detailed preparation prior to a series of advanced measurements on your eyes. We run our calculations multiple ways on multiple instruments to confirm accuracy.
Postoperative care will include postoperative eye drops. If your surgical plan includes the Light Adjustable Lens, the postoperative course will be a bit longer due to added visits for your adjustments, and you will be given 3 pairs of UV protective glasses that you will need to wear until after your “lock-in” treatments.
Your Turn.
